Question on Prototype pattern

Went through a couple of links regarding Prototype pattern. The following is my understanding

1) It can only be used when the shallow copy of the object would be sufficient - dont we need to have a complete copy of the object in most cases.

2) Whereever we use Cloneable with a suitable Abstract/Concrete, would that become Prototype ?
