Hello ranchers!
Is it really necessary to learn the default port numbers of the protocols?
I've seen questions about the port numbers of SMTP, FTP, Telnet, SNMP, LDAP, JRMP, etc... Are these kinds of questions really in the exam?
Thanks in advance!

Marx,

It's not such an outrageous question(s) as it might seem. The default ports, such as FTP 21, telnet 23 and SMTP 25 are so well established that knowing them seems to be a reasonable request. Would it be better if we are being asked instead about some obscure feature of ftp?

Regards,
Dan

I guess you're right I've learnt some of the ports through the years, but I've found mock questions about a large variety of port numbers I never cared to learn, here's the list:

HTTP
HTTPS
FTP
Telnet
SMTP
POP3
SNMP
LDAP
LDAPS
JRMP

some are easy, but some are not. The thing is, wouldn't it be a shame to know obscure things about most of the stuff in the exam and failing to answer a dumb question like this?
Regards
Marx

Dankeschoen Lars,
I was hoping not to have to learn those boring port numbers. I was really wondering if they were really in the exam. Are they?

It's a good idea to learn the port numbers that are related to J2EE if you don't know them by now. FTP, Telnet, SMTP, POP3 are not directly related to J2EE. Alright? Focus on the protocols listed in the exam objectives.

Great Lars,
that's exactly what I thought, I had my doubts because there are lots of question of some not-in-the-exam protocols in the EPractize Labs mock engine.

Marx,
I really recommend using Cade's SCEA certification guide for your preparation. It gives you good notion about what is covered and what is not. Those mock exams may be misleading sometimes.
