Scope of EJB Security in the Exam part 1

Hi Every One !!

I was reviewing EJB Security from ED Roman Book, and they mention that In earlier versions of EJB (1.0 and 1.1 ), there was no portable way to achieve authentication. And since EJB 2.0, authentication is now portable and robust, and We Can call Authentication logic through the java Authentication and Authorization Service (JAAS). From what I knew that in the SCEA Exam part 1 cover earlier version of EJB (but not EJB 2.0)
My question is JAAS and how its used in an EJB environment included in Exam part 1 ? what we have to understand and master for the exam regarding EJB Security ?

Thank you so much in advance for your prompt answer

Hi Rania,

due to the fact that JAAS is mentioned in Mark Cade's SCEA Study Guide I would expect it in the exam.

Darya

Hi Darya and thank you for your reply

Actually I didn't yet start reading Mark cade's book, working on other books ... as you are preparing for SCEA too, are you just using Mark Cade book ? any good links for Mock exam ?

Thank you again in advance for your answer

You might get questions like 'we have this scenario where we are using JAAS authentication...' so if you know the boundaries of JAAS that should help. No in depth study is required.

Hi Rania,

I use only Mark Cade's book and one SCEA mock exam from EPractize. See the discussion here.

If you like more than this check the link on top of the SCEA forum as there are SCEA FAQ and SCEA Links

Hi John and thank you for your answer !

Darya, thanks also for your link, you know when I had open your old post regarding a question of EJB :

"Is it possible to specify the number of EJB instances to pool during deployment time?

Select one.

A: True
B: False "

The answer for me was clear is A, in the ED Roman book he mention that The size and behavior of each cache can be controlled using the cache-related properties in the EJB container or the sun-ejb-jar.xml file.
If you have Ed Roman book go to Chapter 18, there is a great section explaining EJB Performance Optimizations, if you don't have this Book than go to Sun Tutorials, you will find more details..

Thanks and Regards,

Hi Rania,

well I remember that A was the wrong answer .

Look what Mark Cade had to say

Nevertheless EPractize is a good mock exam to use for preparing.

Hi Darya !!

When Mark Cade had answer that ? in the same posted where did you asked that EJB question ?
For me I didn't yet start reading on Mark Cade book, I prefer to spent some time on ED Fowler Book and HF Design Pattern, but I noticed that Mark Cades book is very light mean for each section didn't go deeply (it's good for those that have already working experience on EJB and other sections..), so this why I left it at the end when I'll finish reviewing from others book .. But I'm impatient to read it !!!

For EPractize, the link that you mentioned earlier, you have to buy the mock exam, right ?
Which book on Design Pattern and UML are you using beside Mark Cade Book ?

SO waiting your answer

yes I asked the question and got Mark Cade's answer in that post .

I should say that Mark Cade's Study Guide is also recommended by Sun for the SCEA exam. It's a comprehensive book for SCEA Part 1 and 2.

This in combination with a mock exam like from EPractize is a good foundation for SCEA. EPractize is a commercial exam simulator which I use with full saticfaction.

Beside the Cade book I heavily use HFEJB and HFDP for detailed information.

Also in my bookshelf there are the UML Language User Guide and UML Distilled.

These are the sources from where I take my wisdom for SCEA part 1 .

Hi Darya !

Thanks for the past pictures of the books that you are using to prepare for SCEA Part1 .. I use the same books as you, only for EJB I'm using ED Roman, as my colleague have it and I borrow it from him, the others (HF Design Patter, UML Martin Fowler and Mark Cade I bought them ...)
Did you start first working on EJB and Design Pattern book than Mark Cade book ? how is your strategy for this exam?

For the UML I have 2.0 version, and they said that the Exam cove just UML 1.0...do you know if we can skip some chapters from UML Distilled Martin Fowler Book ? do you have an idea which chapters we have more to concentrate ?

For the Mock Exam, I'm not a big fun to do a 1000 of mock exam, in all my previews Certifications, I like to study on good books or online tutorials than finish with one Mock exam that's included within the book.

SO how did you find the EPractize ? I wonder if at Sun website has any mock exam for Part 1 ?

Thanks in advance for your answer

I did Sun's SCJD certificate (w/ HFDP) and then did Sun's SCBCD certificate (w/ HFEJB). Due to my previous preparation work for SCJD and SCBCD I know both HF books quite well and use them more as a reference.

So if you know EJB and Patterns then you are half way through.

When you know UML 2.0 you also know UML 1.0 . Mark Cade however has all you need for SCEA.

EPractize had some errors in their mock exams but they corrected them. All in all I like this product because it gives you a nice GUI and allows you to customize the mock exams so that you can concentrate more on your weak areas.
