I Passed part 1 with 87%. The exam was not as intimidating as I first exepected. The questions on design patterns, UML, architecture vocabulary were pretty easy. The questions on EJB (2 or 3 of them ) and scenario based stuff were more difficult to nail down in relative comparison. The questions were not really very huge in length. Some took around 2 to 3 minutes to read and visualize but otherwise it was pretty ok. I had a lot of personal satisfaction in nailing some of the tough ones.
I used Mark Cade's book, Paul Allen book ( only the two minute drills and exam ), Ed Roman EJB, Head first EJB, HF Design patterns, Matin fowler for UML, Internationalization chapter from the Sun online blueprints PDF, Load balancing tutorial from OnJava, and many more articles that were posted here.
Passing the BCD exam before I took this one was a lot of help. Overall I had trouble with 5 questions only. I was able to complete the exam in 30 minutes and used the rest of the time for my review. Marked 22 questions for review. Initially when I took the Whizlab simulator I was able to do this consistently and I thought there was something wrong with the simulator questions, but it turns out they are pretty much alike. I usually spend more time reviewing my answers so this was not out of the ordinary for me. Initially I recieved many questions that required a lot of reading. It helps to draw the architecture for some questions and then answer, especially when firewalls are involved.
My average score on whizlabs was around 75% with a high of 81% and a low of 70%. Got 70% on the final mock exam on the simulator. There were many errors on this simulator and wrong answers as well. But it helped model the type of questions asked on the real exam and it was quite useful there. Dont worry about the % you get on mocks. If you feel confident go ahead and take the exam. Good luck to those who are yet to take it
Hi John and Congratulation for the exam and the Good Score, well done !!
Thank you also to share with us your experience study that you had before the exam. Im tacking the exam the second week of May (if every thing on my last review goes well and feel ready ) ....what do you advice me to do in the last review week , Im using Mark Cade, ED Roman Book for EJB, UML Martin Fowler, HF Design Pattern, and some Tutorials over the net and I had purchase the whizlab Kit and will soon start to use it, after Ill finish some chapters left from Mark Cade book For Legacy System, where is the best Tutorial or book for it ?
Thank you in advance for your response and advices,
For the last week I barely read through anything. Just went through the two minute reviews and scanned through the books. I read some articles posted here for the legacy systems.

Thanks John for your answer. I'm almost done with Mark Cade book, and didn't find section for Legacy System... so I'll go over some tutorials over the net. Also, for the last chapter "Case Study" in Mark Cade book , is it related for part 2 Exam , right?

Yep thats for part 2. Good luck with your exam. I would also suggest looking at the notes section on some of the SCEA yahoo preparation groups.

Actually I founded also the IBM Java certification success, Part 4: SCEA, very good summary for the most important chapters (its contain most important info to remember)
