I think important points to remeber are: 1. You are architecting and not designing a software solution. 2. Every diagram has its meaning (Class diagram describe the classes of the domain, Component Diagram the implementation, Sequences Diagram the interaction of the implementing components). 3. Try to keep your diagrams and document simple and clean.
