I passed SCEA 5 Part I with 67%. I did not give any mock tests as I could not find any simulator. I used the following books 1) JavaEE Tutorial from the web site of Sun 2) Mastering EJB by Ed Roman 3) Head First Design Patterns 4) Core JavaServer Faces (2nd Edition) - by David Geary, Cay S. Horstmann 5) Sun Certified Enterprise Architect by Mark Cade 6) Core J2EE design pattern 7) Core J2EE Design Pattern
I felt the exam difficult and the choices were very close. You have to read between the lines in this exam.
First of all many congratulations for clearing the exam despite not many resources being available. Could you tell me now that you had given the exam which topics in the objectives i should focus on in detail and which others i can just go through. Also if given a second chance which topics you would like to concentrate more on depending on the type of questions you faced in the exam.
The test focuses mainly on applicability of technology. For eg: They will give a case and ask which technology is suitable. 1) JSF with Custom Components 2) JSP with JSTL ... Learning coding will not help much. This does not mean you should not have technical knowledge. For eg: To add new functionality to a web service without changing the existing code you should know that we can use annotation something like @HandlerChain (similar to filters in Servlet)
Gain as much knowledge on the objectives as you can. I could not find simulator, but I think you will find one of the links in the mail posted by Selina Tan http://www.coderanch.com/forums/

I would like to concentrate more on JPA and JSF. These were the technologies where I found myself week and there are quite a few questions asked on them.

No, I could not find any question specific to EJB 2.1. Yes they do ask the applicability of EJB to specific case irrespective of version.

Hi , could you pls tell me what is difference between SCEA 1.4 and SCEA 5 ...the reason for asking this question is , I had prepared for SCEA1.4 ..but due to some reason , i couldn't give this exam....now I am hearing about this new version of exam SCEA5....
I have heard only two versions of this exam. One is SCEA 2(old) and the other is SCEA 5. I dont think you will be able to take part 1 of SCEA 2 because Sun has discontinued it. I could not find the link. Please go to the link sent by John. http://www.sun.com/training/certification/java/scea.xml
Thanks.

Congratulations Kunal,
Did the exam had any questions where it showed you a bunch of code, and asked to answer the question ?
