Why SCEA?

Does SCEA give me any edge over so-workers for securing a higher pay?
Is it a fruitful 'learning' experience?
People with what background are eligible to take the exam?

I would think that having SCEA gives one an edge over others, in general.
However, most of the time, as with any certification, it's a matter of
perception. SCEA will not automatically help you get "higher pay" but if I
were selecting between several architects of comparable experience, the one with SCEA would have the edge. On the other hand, SCEA without experience would not really count as an edge.

Just my $0.02.

I don't think having SCEA helps you get "higher pay".

But the lessons you learn while taking the exam could help you become a better software developer/architect which could in turn get you a higher salary.

I wrote a short blog about certifications in general here.

I hope you find it useful.

Prad, Can you explain, how hasn't it helped you at all?
Have you had a good job before then and you have been well off without it?, or it hasn't helped you find a good job?

I would like to know about that too, Prad.
I am really grateful to my Java certifications.
My first certification SCJP helped me to get my first job after graduating from college.
Second and third certifications (SCWCD, SCBCD) helped me to get my second and third job. When it comes to picking 1 out of 2/3 top candidates, I think certifications do play a role.

I think that it is widely acknowledged that SCEA is one of the most highly respected certifications in the industry.

Furthermore, architects are typically some of the highest paid positions in the IT industry.

The SCEA exam looks great on a resume and gives you instant architect credibility, which is good if you are doing consultant work or looking to make a career move.
