Hi,
I had been preparing for SCEA's exams 310-051,310-300A and 310-061

by books "Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for J2EE Technology by

Mark Cade and Simon Roberts" and "Sun Certified Enterprise Architect

for J2EE by Paul Allen and Jospeh Bambara";without realizing that sun

has upgraded these exams to 310-052,310-301A and 310-062.

Now I have a predicament that I have study material for 310-051 but

when I look for mock exams from vendors like epractizelabs and

whizlabs. They have upgraded to 310-052;so I don't have mock exams for

310-051. And if I altogether start again for 310-052, I don't find any

books available in the market or a proper study guide on net which is

specifically targetting this exam.

With this background,I seek advice on following points:-
1)Should I go for 310-051 or 310-052?
2)If I plan to go for 310-052 is there any book or proper study material

available? If yes, please guide me to it.

Thanks,
Anurag

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you don't have an option in the matter - they're not offering 310-051 (the original SCEA Part I) anymore. You're somewhat stuck on taking -052. The original exam ceased being offered at the end of February of this year.

Agree with Theodore.

Anurag, I went over the same dilemma a couple of months ago and I decided on taking the new SCEA 5. There's no point on taking the old one since it's being discontinued anyways. Also, they're not selling vouchers for that anymore and you'll have until december to finish all 3 parts.

But in order to prepare for it you'll have to work a lot harder to cover new topics that are not covered on the old exam. Also, the test is very different from the first one, so don't expect old exam simulators to help much.

Anyways, try focusing on some topics on this forum.. some of them will really help guiding you (specially those that post exam results).
Also, check my feedback topic on the new exam and on epractize labs exam simulator http://www.coderanch.com/t/156750/java-Architect-SCEA/certification/Exam-tips-feedback-Sun-epractice

One of the books I'd strongly suggest (besides those I mention on my feedback topic) is Practical Software Estimation: (M. A. Parthasarathy). This reference is mentioned all around the sun's epractice exam simulator.

Good luck, and keep in mind the test is a lot harder than the old version, so do not save efforts to prepare for it.

regards,

I am also preparing for the 310-051 exam. The most critical factor that you can still take the old version depends on whether you have bought the assignment voucher for part 2 exam before end of Feb this year. For part 1 and 3, the exam prefix is also 310 and you can just purchase ordinary 310 voucher and then go for it.

If you have purchased the assignment voucher of part 2, you can finish all 3 parts and being certified SCEA before end of Dec. If not, you cannot take the old version. But if you have passed the part 1 of old version already, you may try to call Sun Education in your resdential area and ask for an assignment voucher. Maybe they will grant your wish. Just have a try.
