Yes, this book is a must have SCEA 5. Useful for both Part I and II.

I also believe the book is a must have, although Sun does make most of that material available free online, so if you're pinching pennies, you can get most of it for free.

Here's an interesting thread on JEE5 design patterns, and which J2EE design patterns might be obsolete with EJB3 and JEE5:

Which J2EE Design Patterns No Longer Apply to JEE5 and EJB3? Which Patterns are Obsolete?

I think it's a must for Part I. But not really that important for Part II especially if you're thinking of submitting a JEE 5 solution.

Like what Cameron said, some patterns there can be considered obsolete in JEE 5.

SCJP 1.2 (89%), SCWCD 1.3 (94%), IBM 486 (90%), SCJA Beta (96%), SCEA (91% / 77%), SCEA 5 P1 (77%), SCBCD 5 (85%)
