J2ME apps for specific phones.

Say if i develop an application for Nokia 6600, i would need to use some phone specific libraries. So that app will not run on other phones. Correct me if i am wrong.
Or is it like a J2ME app developed for a particular profile and config would run on any compatible phone.
The reason why i am asking is I have seen apps written for specific phone versions in the sites where i can download free j2me apps.

The applications would be compatible unless if you try to use any vendor specific APIs.
