Hello all, There have been mails from Kathy and Bert regarding 2-3 beta exams to come up by the end of december. Can anyone explain what technologies will be covered in those beta exams ? regards ashish sarin
Just a guess, but I'll think a new SCWCD and SCEA /Erik

What could be the possible difference between the new SCEA and SCWCD exam and the old one? SCEA was more or less scenario based exam and was quite generic in nature(i mean it was not specific to any technology EXCEPT EJB). Which version of JSP and Servlets specification will possibly be covered by the new SCWCD exam ? What you say about Web Services certification ?

While we're guessing, do you think they'll revamp the SCJD exam? I was thinking that a good exam will be one based on J2EE only (i.e. building a web site with JSP's/servlets, and linking it to a business tier using EJB's). I haven't taken the SCJD exam, but I've looked at what it entails. I think a similar exam based on pure J2EE would be a good choice. Ray Gill - SCJP, SCWCD

Hello Ramon, I gave that feedback to Sun when the SCBCD beta exam was released. I too had a suggestion that there should be a proper project based on J2EE technologies just like we had in SCJD. Monica Green (Sun Education) replied to my suggestion saying that the request has been forwarded to the Certification Exam Group and that they will evaluate my suggestion. Never heard anything from her after that. regards ashish sarin

Do someone know about the new certification beta from Sun? If somebody has got the mail from kathey then can you forward that mail to clarify some doubts? Many Thanks
"While we're guessing, do you think they'll revamp the SCJD exam? " Hi Ramon. They have already revamped the assignment. They have a couple of different versions now. No longer is it the Fly By Night assignment. They had a Beta last fall for the new assignments. Mark
Howdy all At the moment, I think the next two exams for revision are going to be the Architect exam and the SCWCD. Both will be updated to reflect the new J2EE 1.4 (and related) specs, when they're final. The specs are most focused on Web Services (JSR 109), but have a lot of other new features as well. I don't know *anything* at this time about the direction the Architect exam is going to take. The web exam revision will probably be relatively minor, although there is a *rumour* that the next version *might* get a little more difficult. It looks like there will be a brand new exam coming as well, but they haven't given me permission to talk about it yet, so I can't say what the topic is. The brand exam will probably not even go into beta until at least December, so you have quite a long time. We don't have hard dates on the updated Architect and Web Component exams, because we don't have firm commitments on when the specs will be final, but we expect *something* to happen before the end of the year. For the next four months, though, the Big Excitement is right here with the EJB exam cheers, Kathy

Hello Kathy, When you say beta exam of SCEA, does it mean that we will get the opportunity to take beta exam for the part i (multiple choice) as well as beta exam for part ii & iii (application design) or we will only be able to take the part i of SCEA ?? regards ashish sarin

I guess the brand new exam should be on J2ME. Quentin

I did the original beta for the SCEA exam (back in 2000) and everybody given a voucher was entitled to take part 1. Then, the top X candidates (i.e. those with the best scores on part 1) were given the chance to progress to parts 2 and 3. I know nothing about the new beta, but perhaps something like this may happen again.

Since J2ME and MIDlets are so big right now in the wireless market, I am pretty sure the that the next new certification would be somewhere in that area. It would be crazy no to create a one in that area. I like this one:
Sun Certified Java Programmer (1.2)<br />Sun Certified Web Component Developer for J2EE 1.3<br />Sun Certified Business Component Developer for J2EE 1.3 (beta)<br />Sun Certified Web Component Developer for J2EE 1.4 (beta)<br />Sun Certified Mobile Application Developer for J2ME 1.0 (beta)<br />Sun Certified Developer for Java Web Services (beta)
