As far as i know, looking for a job right now in Switzerland you have some chances if you are from EU, almost no chance otherwise. And even if you are already in Switzerland, that's not the best moment...

If you want to drink real beer, you might consider going to Belgium or Germany.
And if so, do they allow furriners in to drink it? I tried for a work permit a couple years ago (for a job in Bern) and got the distinct impression that furriners aren't wanted.....
Yeah, that's what I hate about Switzerland, people here are too conservative and traditionalist... Maybe one of the reason we are still not in the EU which is not a bad thing anyway by looking at what is happening there... And no, you won't make me open that debate anyway

The UK isn't bad, nor is the Czech Republic either. But I prefer Belgian brews myself. Kreik, Trappist Ale, and Hoegaarden. Mmmmm!

Swiss Mobile badly needed my skills (Tibco specialists are like diamonds in Switzerland these days). But twas not to be.....
I liked Bern and could easily visualize living there. But US citizens are too much of a risk it would seem....

Having myself gone through the US Visa application hell (pre-911 period of course, now it is almost impossible to get a US visa), I can assure you that the other way is not much better either

Anyway, they let me come in.
It's weird that your application has been refused. Usually, in the IT world, especially for Swisscom Mobile, things get easier due to the tight connection between them and the Swiss Government. Anyway...

Valentin, the informal word on the street is that Switzerland is virtually impossible except for French and maybe German nationals. A friend of mine from Singapore was turfed out some years ago as well. I think perhaps Swisscom Mobile didn't want to go through the trouble, as it may have been a three-month process or more. I don't think they even bothered to make the application at all.
The next time Switzerland looks at it's extremely low growth rate they may want to consider the cost of excluding auslanders with skills they need.

Switzerland? There is a chance because the Swiss answer CV's and even bring you in for an interview. Culturally open, legally shut.
France? No chance. Io non parlez Francais va bene, and I've sent many CV's with nary an answer.
The Low countries are very open, and I've worked in Italy twice. Germany somewhat less so. I have an impression that Scandinavia is open but they supply most of their own demand.
A Swiss wife? Any swiss miss can do better than me. You know the joke about shaving a dog's rear and teaching it to walk backward? I'm nearly that ugly...

I didn't get where are you from? And especially, which citizenship do you have?

Davide, I'm a US citizen with permanent residence in the UK.
BTW, the most recent ads I see from Switzerland specify that applicants must
have Swiss citizenship or existing permission to work in Switzerland. The authorities may have made the process much more difficult recently.....
Something of a trend apparently. The US is dropping the yearly limit on H1B visas and the UK is cracking down lately it seems.
