Hi K & B,
1. Can I use the book to learn EJB or this book is exclusively for the certification ? Is some EJB knowledge required?
2. why is there no CD with the book considering your SCJP book had one.
It would have been good if there was a CD because we could have practiced Drag and drop questions.
3. How did you find writing the book? Was it tough or easy?
4. Where can I get TOC of the book?
5. With J2EE V 1.4 to be released before the end of the year, why do you think we should be taking the EJB 2.0 exam.
I want to hear from *authors*.

Hi Pradeep!
Thanks for all of your help with tech. editing!
1). Generally speaking, Kathy and I both believe that it's best to 'choose one master' when writing a book. In other words, we like to have a specific focus for our books as opposed to writing "The one and only Java book you'll ever need, for anything from EJB's to Servlets to cell phones". In this case we bent the rules a little bit. Since we were part of the team that created the Sun exam, we did our best to make sure that the exam reflects real world usefullness. So we thought that an intro to EJB and a certification book would overlap a lot... so our goal was that this book be BOTH an intro and a certification guide.
2). We're working to create a general purpose exam simulator that we can use for all of our books, when that is complete it will be available on our website. We will be adding HF EJB content to the website, and we'll post on this forum as new content becomes available.
3). Writing the book was fun (well for me at least, Kathy is the bean queen, she did most of the heavy lifting ). Head First books are very unusual, and we haven't got all the ins and outs down to a science yet. For example, O'reilly was very patient with us because as we got further into the book it kept getting bigger. One of the main reasons we were a few weeks late was because the book ended up being about 120 pages bigger than we thought a few months ago!
4). We'll put a TOC up on our website... hmmm... *maybe* we'll post a TOC here!?, we'll let you know
5). Sun decided (and we agree), that it will be a long time before 1.4 is commonly used. The feeling is that 1.3 will be the 'real world' version for a long time.

Spot false dilemmas now, ask me how!

Winning the book here looks very tough. Bert, any idea when the Indian edition will be out?
Is it possible that all Technical Editors get a complimentary copy?

Hi Kathy and Bert,
I've ordered your book on Amazon on October 16 along with two books on UML, but unfortunately I am still waiting for yours.
I am still busy with my SCJD assignment, I decided to postpone my SCWCD cert till the new exam arrives, so my next cert step after SCJD will be to pass the SCBCD exam.
It means that there is no urgence for me to get the book. But I must confess that when I was told that you published a new book, it was compelling for me to order it immediately.
As I used your SCJP & D Study Guide along with a few other books for preparing for the SCJP exam, I know that I owe my high SCJP score (95%) to you.
Just two readings + a short summary of hard-to-remember-stuff (for me) I made myself + your very good mock exams, made the job done so easily ...
I really appreciated your writing style and the humour you put in it : I noticed that when I am studying complex stuff while smiling, it's much easier for me to understand and remember what I am reading.
Thank you for writing that way !
Translated in very bad Java (on purpose ), it could give something like :

I am looking forward to see the DHL van coming soon from Amazon ...
Best,
Phil
