Hi K & B, While going through the sample chanper of Head First Book, I was really amazed to the organization of this book. It some thing very strange and interesting. You guys have really ventured a new path into writting books. Here goes my questions: 1. How much time did u take to complete the book? How many man hours? 2. How big it the book? Can i finish reading in a week. I have 6-7 months of experiance in EJB. will i find it be difficult to digest? 3. When r u guys planning to release the SCBCD simulator ? Can we get the sample version? 4. Can I get the TOC of this book? 5. r u planning to take out the similar book for SCWCD exam? just a wild guess ...;-)

Keep it up
Yeah... Surely I do want to participate in the promotion of my favourite author... By helping others like this, I got many of my knowledge from the past refreshed again... But need only some spare time on it... Since I haven't got SCBCD, this forum is un-avoidable one for me to pass SCBCD as well... As long as I am walking on the way to SCBCD, you will be seeing me here on the road of SCBCD frequently... [ October 30, 2003: Message edited by: Ko Ko Naing ]

So ,is winning acopy based on the number of posts (which is just begging for spam) or is there some kind of random number generator and anyone who posts has an equal chance, or what? Anybody know who's willing to share?

Random number generator means even Bert and Kathy have a chance of winning their own book So random number is not acceptable

then how the winners are selected?? if they post a image(i.e, if they run any program, then showing us a applet way of how the winners are selected) of how winners are selected, it would be great!!! isn't it?
Hi everyone, You can read the rules about how winners are randomly selected and what is an acceptable posting on the JavaRanch Book Promotions page (and see which promotions are coming up). A hint: Just posting hundreds of times will not help you to win. Not everyone is here just to win the book - some of the posters were in the forum asking and answering questions before the book promotion (and hopefully will still be around after the promotion), and some of the questions / answers may be deemed out of scope for the promotion (like most of the comments in this thread  ), but are still getting answers which is good to see. Regards, Andrew

Hope O'Reilly will have a chance to get bankrupted, if they try to give out 40 instead of 4... If all people whether post less or more have the same chance to win, it's not quite fair in this game... I think the webmaster filters the successful messages, which can help others, out of the garbage and randomly select the successful candidates... I do believe that they will filter the messages, which are helpful to others and related to the book... Just an opinion...
Rashmi - Seems like this thread kind got side-tracked. Some of these questions have already been answered, so these will be quick answers: How long to write the book? - I guess about 3-4 months, with some interruptions  Exam simulator? Well the master mock appendix is a really close 'paper' exam simulator, with answers and references. We are still negotiating with our publishers on a software engine simulator - we'll let JavaRanchers know when we're underway. TOC? - The cowgirl posted that on the wickedlysmart site! SCWCD Cert? - You must be a mind reader! It's underway, and it'll be ready around the same time as the new exam, we *hope* to have portions for review in time for the beta, (if there is a beta), but no promises yet! Hope that helps!
Spot false dilemmas now, ask me how!
