Would it be better to wait for EJB 2.1 spec test?

SCWCD is at jdk 1.4 spec now. I think it would be smart to wait on the SCBCD test until it gets to the next spec. I work with IBM Websphere Application Server and will be going to WAS 6.0 shortly. It does not pay to do a test that will be out of date in a few weeks..... does it?

Boy, I just passed a few weeks back, what a waste!?

I personally don't think there will be a new SCBCD coming out based on EJB 2.1. If you look at EJB 2.1 spec, the new features really don't mount to a new test. I would imagine a new test based on EJB 3.0 which is still in draft stage comes out next year. Just my thought.

I have no news yet of a new exam. I did not mean to scare you. But it would seem to me that the new timer mechanism, the new Web Service EJB endpoint etc would make a new test reasonable. They changed the SCWCD why not change the SCBCD. I have done a number of tests already that become outdated within a few weeks of the time I take them. I do not like that happening and that is why I am sceptical now.

There most probably won't be any new SCBCD exam until the SCJP and SCEA exams have been updated which means at least one year. There are not enough changes in EJB 2.1 to warrant a new updated version of the exam. I think the shift to EJB 3.0 will most certainly trigger an update of the certification exam, but not before.

I agree with Valentin, and we're in pretty close touch with the Sun certification team, as we help them create all of their Java exams

I'd say AT LEAST a year. In general, these exams are meant for programmers who have at least 6 months of experience with a new technology... it will be a long time before vendors have gone to the new spec AND customers have made the huge step of upgrading to the new spec...

should we learn Hibernate instead of EJB3?

There is no Hibernate certification (yet) so if you want to learn it you are free to, of course.

Note that EJB 3.0 has absolutely nothing to do with Hibernate. Ideas from the latter have been borrowed, ameliorated and incorporated into the new EJB 3.0 specification, but there is no dependency relationship between the EJB specification and Hibernate. Besides, Hibernate only deals with the persistence part and not with the service and messaging parts (which EJB 3.0 still does).
