Hi everyone,
I have gotten my scwcd couple of days ago and thinking to go for scbcd.
Just ordered the HFEJB book.
My question to you guys is, how long the prepartion takes on average?
How do you rate the complexity of this exam when compared to SCWCD or SCJP?
I have J2EE experience but have not developed any EJBs.

Thanks in advance,

Yep, I guess I was the one missing, For those on the SCBCD forum, we are 3 of the 6 MONDAY PASSERS we all passed SCWCD on Monday.

I have the same queries, and my Head First EJB book is on my way in the mail as well.

I took little over a month, but then I had some experience with EJB.

How do you rate the complexity of this exam when compared to SCWCD or SCJP?
I would say this is somewhat easier, if you know what is happenning. START with few examples and I guess, you will be on track. For myself, I felt I had to remember lot of things for SCJP / SCWCD. But then it is individual qualities, right?

SCJP 1.6, SCJD, SCWCD, SCBCD.

Be nice to people on the way up cos, you'll need 'em on your way down - From somewhere I can't remember!

Thanks Ram.

Hey Liyaquat & georgy,
Have you guys thought about ejb1.3 thats out there. It is supposed to be significantly different than ejb 1.2.
I am thinking of waiting for the new book & new certification..
I cancelled by HFEJB order also.

What do you guys think?

Are talking about ejb3.0 ?
I think you'll have to wait some time before the new exam and new books come out. Well, if you're not in a hurry, that's ok.
Passing the current exam (ejb2.0) is still valuable.

Hello Everyone,

Regarding the new SCBCD Certification:-

will be out min 6 months from now and there is still no official word from Sun so cant really say for sure. After the new exam comes out we still wont hvae a updated book for it, so we dont know if we can get it soon so if I wait for the new certification to come out then I guess I'll have to wait a lot maybe 6 months to a year. I am planning to finish off SCBCD in 2 months max and then wen the new spex come out, I'll go through them, and anyway when the new version of EJB is out and the tools that we use(Websphere, Weblogic etc) are updated then we will have to adapt anyway. So instead of waiting for the new exam I'm gona get the SCBCD certificate now itself, I might consider an upgrade certification in a years time if I M through with SCEA by then.

Regarding the physical SCWCD Certificate:-

I had appeared for my SCJP on 30th Dec 2005 and got my certificate on 1st Feb 2006 so thats like exactly one month(In India). So I am expecting my SCWCD certificate by 15th of April 2005. Certmanager.net/Sun is a good way to be updated bout the progress coz they mention when the kit will be mailed

Although I have still not recieved the Sun Logos to use on my stationary.

So guyz n galz what do you think?

Hi Anu,

Thats good, it takes longer to get it in India.

Did you get the logos with the kit or do you have to download them from some internet site.

With my SCJP Kit I had a agreement that I had to sign and send back to the US, the agreement was for the logo. It seems for non us residents this is the procedure for getting the logos, I still have not got the logos, does anybody have more info on this?

Hi you "Monday passers", it makes four of us in here now !

I'm still waiting for my HFE book that should arrive about 24 march.
In the meantime i try looking around, but i want to use the same method as I used for SCWCD (and it worked quite well ), so I wait the HFE.

About EJB 3.0, it'll not be out before a few monthes and after that, you'll have to wait a few more monthes for the new exam to be out. Trust me, order back the book and go for it. Upgrade will be much easier than a full exam, if you still want it when available. But this is your choice, i respect and somehow understand that. One "monday passer" leaves the group?

For others, let's get to work

Yes, I know its futile waiting for an spec to be released and then its updated exam and then a book and then .....

Its better we make do with what we have right now and clear SCBCD, later we can think of getting the upgrade anytime in the future.

By the way, has anyone appeared for any upgrade exam? Does the upgrade cover the entire syllabus or just the changes??

I have already got the HFE book, and have started studying as well...

By the way when is everybody planning to appear for SCBCD, another Monday??? I am thinking of appearing sometime in May... haven't zeroed in on the date yet..

All the best...

Adios...

Hey Liyaquat, I still didn't receive my HFE book yet.
I'm making a website I think I'll use to make my notes available as soon as I study one chapter/topic.

If you think it may be usefull, and if you have any ideas, you may have a look :
SunCertified

I called it SunCertified with a bottom line "Sun Certification Help Center". It looks too much, but I didn't know what to put there, and it summarize my idea about this website, and the philosophy I use in here at Javaranch since the first day.

I plan to take my SCBCD hopefully before end of April, maybe very beginning of May at worst. I don't want to take too much time for this (SCDJWS comes after...). Maybe we can make it the same day and become the "Double Monday Passers Team"

Hope to see you around during this time and we can share all together as we did for SCWCD. Nice feeling to work as a helping group.

Hi !

Good news, my book arrived this morning !
What a sweet feeling to have a new HF book to study.

Thanks for supporting my site idea, I think it's better for people who doesn't want to wait for me to finish the book in order to get the full notes as a PDF doc.

Like this I may publish each topic as soon as I finish it.

Anyway I'll do it and if people want to use it, it'll be there.

Hey welcome to our group Paulina.

I hope it can be done in six monthes I want to do this in maximum one ! (But I quit my job to concentrate on this, so I have more time than others). With efforts, and a good book choice of yours with HFE, and with support of everyone here, it will be no problem.

Welcome again !

Hi,

I just joined this forum while preparing for SCWCD and found it very useful and helpful. Especially some tips and information from Fredric.I appeared for it on Tuesday and got a score of 84%.
Now I am thinking to start on SCBCD and all the posts in this thread seem very encouraging, so I am going to order Heads First book for EJB as well. Have you guys started preparing for SCBCD? I read somewhere in the forum that its a little easier compared to SCWCD and SCJP. I do not have any experience in EJBs, so this will be like a new thing to start for me.
Looking forward to lot of useful discussions in this forum about SCBCD exam.
Good luck to all who have started prepaing for SCBCD and lets get working.

Hi Kusa and thanx

Welcome to the SCBCD forum group !

Some of us started already studying (I'm one of these). As for SCWCD, I'll be happy to share/help/ask for help with you.

If you appreciated my informations, you may go to the website I created for certification (link in signature). You'll find there docs I make during my studies. This is the place I'll put everything, so go there anytime you like to see if there is something you'd like to use.

Again, welcome !

Hi Frederic,

Your site is pretty cool.I also downloaded your first chapter yesterday. It's good.Your notes for SCWCD has really helped me a lot at the eleventh hour preparation, and I believe I want to read your notes for SCBCD too.Hurry up.

I bought HFEJB yesterday and looked into it.I could not locate few objectives for SCBCD in HFEJB book.Maybe I think I need to go through all the chapters to find it.I mean to say from the Contents,I could not locate it.

Thanks as of now.

Hi All,

Even I'm preparing for SCBCD and using Headfirst for the same (I cleared my SCWCD pretty recently). Planning to give my exam around April last week. Fredric, Your site is cool. And personally, I feel SCBCD is much easier compared to SCWCD. Good Luck to 'SCBCD gang' and looking forward for enlightening discussions.

Cheers,

Hi !

Thanks satheesh and Narasimhan for you nice words.

Welcome to our SCBCD study group !
As for my SCBCD notes, the chapter 2 has been released on my website a few minutes ago. This is mostly a RMI/EJB architecture "introduction" chapter, even if some important points are in there, so it's not so big, but i think i made a quite clear "concentrate".

Btw, when reading HFE for chapter 2, watch out the errata about the bean architecture objects creation order, there is a mistake in the big schema.

The errata can be found on o'reilly website, or on my website where i made a "filtered" errata, focusing on really bothering points, technical mistakes, and things that may give you bad basics if you don't read the errata.

Glad to see our SCBCD group is growing

Let's make it 5 of the Monday passers!!! Hello everyone! I am learning Struts on my own, but I'm feeling that we are starting to form a group here. I have the HFEJB book and the cert study kit, but I have been reading up on Struts. When are the 3/13 Monday passers looking to take the exam? I would love to keep up with you guys!

Hi Patrick and welcome to the Monday passers group !

As far as I'm concerned I give most of my time to SCBCD study, so I hope I'll finish in one month max. But I just printed the 500 pages EJB spec, and so much to read, I'm wondering, because I want to make an EJB spec summary for me and all of you here. I think specs cannot be left away, and this 500 pages are just too much. So maybe I'll take more time because of this. And maybe I'll be fast

Well anyway I just love the idea of building a group in here.

Welcome again, and take a look at my website from time to time to get my notes chapters and othere docs.

Hello Fred,

I visited your site. It was really good. Appreciate the way u have maintained and put contents in it.Now I feel, I dont lack study materials.

Any idea where I would get the SourceCode for examples presented in the book SCBCD Exam Study Kit (by Paul Sanghera)?

Hi guys,

I have read patiently all the messages in this thread and I really like Frederic website

I really wanted to gain knowledge in EJB'S and ofcourse good job with that

and hence i want to take SBCD but i dont have SCJP and i feel i dont need to know all those linked lists, vectors, lists etc since I am an intermediate java programmer migrated from C++/telecom background and has always not good opinion about java programmers having come from Embedded System background.

I always get inspired by this forum

Also, i am having this inertia (exam fever) to buy sun vocher and take up this exam for SCJP

can I bypass SCJP and take up EJB related exam ?

well I will like to join the group too,I am very much new to the EJB technology and starting from ejb fundamentals from ed norton.I've already ordered the HFEJB to get the exam feel
I am planning to clear the exam within 3 months,is it really possible?I absolutely don't have any exp in EJB....

I am sure all the material listed is going to help me a loot

Nageswar, U need to pass SCJP first, there is no way around it, Linked Lists, Vectors and other collection classes comprise a very small portion of the entire SCJP objectives, and I read about them only in the last week of my SCJP preparation. The rest of the objects are very useful in actual hands on java programming, weather that be EJB or Servlets or any thing else. If you feel that you know most of what you need to know about core Java then SCJP will be easier for you then you think, so dont procastinate and hesitate because of the Vectors and HashMaps, just go for it.

Vrunda, Welcome to the club, yes its definitely possible to prepare and pass SCBCD within 3 months even if U dont have any EJB knowledge or experience.

Best of Luck 2 U all...

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
