Dear Ranchers,

I wish to know that what's the loss in giving the beta exam,i am really astonished on the fact that as on 26th December 2006(yesterday) morning,i recieved a voucher from IBM for DB2-730 of 60$ for free which is valid till 31st December 2006,as soon as i got the voucher i talked to prometric center over here and found out that the seats are available on 29th December ,i booked the exam instantly on the date, that gave me 2 days to prepare for the exam, and today on 27th December i find that its been a month SCBCD 5.0 is out,the last date is as 2nd Jan 2007,i will be booking the exam for the same date, although i have gone through ejb but do have very few knowledge,i will have 3 days to prepare,i will hope for the best,i have already messed up with my christmas celebrations and here it seems that the same thing will happen on new year eve, what do the ranchers suggest?

Hello,

Don't give up beta exam because it is free.
Atleast make an attempt by reading Mikalai Zaikin's notes.
It won't take more than 2 days to read.

The downside is we'll drag you out and shoot you.

All jokes aside (and yes, that was a joke) - no, there is no real downside to taking the beta. I would still recommend trying to prepare for it seriously, as it's meant as a validation of the question set that Sun will be using for the real exam sometime late 1Q07 or early 2Q07, and it reflects genuine knowledge of the specification. That being said... I don't know if I'd recommend just taking it for the sake of taking it (especially with 2 days of studying only), but... that's just me.

Good luck!

Hi Luiz,

As i frequently attend IT seminars, there was an offer from IBM on mail to test the new DB2 viper, with some challenge in it,me and my 3 mates completed the challenge and recieved the voucher, although we were expecting mp3 players too,but they didnt turned up,anyways only 2 of us are appearing for the exam, and we have still one voucher left which will be a waste,if anyone wishes to utilize it,i will be happy to give it,i would like to remind you that it expires on 31st DEC 06 and can be taken at any prometric center.

Dear Theodore,

I think by taking the exam, i will learn two things

1)How does it feel to write a beta exam.
2)Will come across some real questions for SCBCD 5.0 from sun which will
help me later,when i reappear for exam,if i fail.

But I think if you appear and fail the failed attempt will always show up in your certifications history on Prometric site.

Dear Paras,

I Dont think failing an exam is something bad to me,coz success and failure come side by side, and failing the beta wont matter that much if somebody enquires ,an easy explaination can be given that there was no book for it and i gave the exam on the base of knowledge i have!,the most important thing is you are "Failing The BETA" not the final released.now what do you say paras??

Hi Anand,
Yes you are absolutely right. You should attempt and face the challenge(test), without fearing about the failure. But at the same time you should do justification to the attempt. If you are able to prepare fairly well then I think you should definitely go and appear for the test. Don't think about passing or failing it. But going to the test without preparation just because it is beta(and free) may not be appropriate.

All the best.
Regards,
Paras

Well, that is true, but with a caveat, which is that generally no one else besides you has access to your pass/fail history unless you choose to share it. (Likewise, I believe it shows up on Sun's certification manager, but you also don't have to share that.) If you chose, you could be the only person who knows that you didn't pass. For that matter, I generally only inform my employer when I pass an exam - they don't need to know when I fail.

The fact of the matter is, there's no shame in failing a certification test, especially a beta. EJB 3.0 hasn't been out so long that everyone "should" know it, and it is quite a departure from the prior version. So don't worry about whether or not there's a record.

I Think Sitting On The Hot Seat Of The Exam Till 5 Hours And 15 Minutes,
Without Knowing Any Awnser Is Going To Be Tough,So I Am Going To Prepare For It As Much As One Can In 3 Days,So That I Can At Least Spend That Much Time,Otherwise If I Spend This Much Time With My GirlFriend,That Would Be More Awarded To Me,Isnt It??

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
