Here is some information.
I came to know about this new exam just 3 weeks back while I was browsing Sun's website for the Architect exam. I have some experience in Servlets/JSPs/XML. I decided to take the exam as soon as I can as I was going to get busy on a new project.
First I read Jason Hunter's Java Servlet Programming(not all chapters are applicable to SCWCD) then I read Inside Servlets 2nd edition. I also read Professional Java Server Programming J2EE edition from WROX which covered both Servlets and JSPs pretty well(older API version).
All in all I spent 16 days reading about 4 to 6 hrs. a day including weekends to prepare for this test.
As far as the specification goes I just browsed it very quickly a couple of days before the real exam. BTW: I came to know about this new forum after I took my exam so I could not utilize any of the exam notes but I really appreciate the effort putforth by Ken, Carl and other Java Ranchers.
Last week I bought Sun's online exam for $50 which I believe was a total waste of money as I did not find questions upto the mark and even the explanations for the answers was as good as nothing. Another interesting thing was that I ended up paying state tax and county tax when I purchased the exam voucher here in Colorado USA. So my voucher cost was $157.05 instead of $150. I do not remember paying taxes on the other certification exams I took.
The real exam is of medium difficulty. Most of the questions can be answered in less than a minute so time should not be an issue at all. I scored 100% on most of the sections and ended up with 92% overall.
Anyway, I am happy to get certified and I would be glad to answer any other questions.
Thanks
Darsh

Thanks.
Project experience is not a must but some hands on will definitely help.
There is a little survey in the begining of the exam from Sun trying to judge candidate's experience. I do not know if they use it to set the difficulty level for the exam or not.
BTW: Here are the links for the IBM XML certification. http://www.javaranch.com/gramps/XMLLinks.jsp http://www.ibm.com/certify
For Oracle Certified solution developer you need to be
SCJP2+OOAD UML+JDeveloper. This is the JCert level 2. You can get more info. at http://www.jcert.com
Hope this helps. My email id: darsh_pandya@hotmail.com

Meena,
To prepare for JDeveloper, I suggest you to download/install JDeveloper3 product and play with the tool. The online help sections map very well with the exam objectives. There is one book from Oracle Press for JDeveloper3 which may be helpful too.
I assume that you are aware of IBM486 UML exam and you need to take both JDeveloper and UML exam to get JCert level 2. The good thing is you can take these tests in any order.
Hope this helps.
Darsh

Changan and Meena,
This forum may not be the right place to discuss JDeveloper exam. I believe JavaRanch should open another forum to discuss JCert exam topics.
Meanwhile, please send me an email on darsh_pandya@hotmail.com for questions you have regarding JDeveloper exam and I will be more than happy to reply.
Thanks
Darsh
