I passed the SCJP a few months back using a combination of written for the job study guides, this site and general Java books. Does anyone know of any study guides that have been written to help tackle the SCWCD exam, and are they any good?
Hi mintcake: Don't mind, but for better using this forum: The forum have a search facility (search link at top right corner). By the way. For ressources see this: http://www.javaranch.com/scwcdlinks.jsp Axel
Mint Cake: Regarding SCWCD study guides - I have not seen any texts published specifically for this technology. That being said, my advice: 1. Download the Servlet & JSP Specifications. 2. Download and use Ken Zrobok's notes as a guide. 3. I am using Core Servlets & JSP by Marty Hall as a starting point - good text - but it misses several points covered by the SCWCD exam. This is why you need the specifications and Ken's notes. 4. Get the O'Reilly texts: "JavaServer Pages" "Servlets" These are long reads - but provide deeper coverage of the material than the Mary Hall text. And again, they miss some of the points covered in the exam. 5. Take the mock exams - I believe there are some commercial SCWCD exam simulators out there. ---------- Your total cost: US$150 for books and commercial practice exams and coffee. Plus whatever the actual exam costs. Your total effort: I am still in the studying phase - but would estimate 2 months at 4 hours per day. Around 200 - 250 hours. Note that I like to do a 2 hour brain dump on the "scratch paper" at the exam center before I take an exam - reason imy prep time may seem longer than usual. Hope this helps, John Coxey (email@example.com)
about Core Servlets & JSP by Marty Hall it only covers servlet 2.2 and jsp 1.1 But a new one is coming out. "More Core Servlets & JSP" by Marty Hall by the same author. For anyone new going for SWCD they might be a good choice. The first one is pretty easy to read. I finished it in a week. Not sure on the second one is out though. Good luck to everyone.
