Am I going nuts, or did the ability to search discussions in the saloon go away today?

We switched to using Google as our search engine because it seems that the UBB search was making the server crash. We're working on making the search more flexible/specific.

All of this may become academic if we switch to a different forum provider.

Hi Cindy and Thomas,
sorry if this post comes twice, last time i posted this my proxy went down,so thought the post didnt go through....
i have put a similar request in web page and have explained to the core the difficulty with the present search facility by google. google is faster i agree, but we are not able to do the search which we had been doing all the time.
I would and other users also would really appreciate if this is implemented.
thanks in advance
srini

Our current plan is this:
  • Keep all UBB searching off
  • use google for searching until we switch to jive

  • when/if we switch to jive, we will keep the google stuff available, but it will probably not be so prominent.
This was done because something is repeatedly crashing our servers. The EJIP folks suspect that it has something to do with the searching, although we don't have proof of that.
If we turn the search stuff back on the way it was before, there is a chance that JavaRanch may be unavailable to anybody for great lengths of time.
    Anybody remember last Christmas?
