Hi, I'm looking for a single book to prepare for the
SCWCD exam (along with the two specs). I've seen Marty Hall's "More Servlets and JSPs" recommended several times.
Do I need read his "Core Servlets and JSPs" first?
Thanks.

Both are excellent books.
Core Servlets covers JSP 1.1 and Servlet 2.2
More Servlets covers JSP 1.2 and Servlet 2.3 (talks about WEB-INF, web.xml etc)

Get "More Servlets", whereever required the author refers to the chapters in "Core Servlets" and "Core Servlets" is available online
here.

Thanks for your help. I think I'll go for the "More" book, only buying "Core" if I really, really have to. Books are costing me too much already.
I've decided I'm going to try and get the SCWCD exam done start to finsh within six weeks. Tell me I'm mad, but I think I can do it!

Two books are about to be published.
Manning Publishers on July 1, 2002
and
Sybex on June 15, 2002
So it might be worth the wait to have a comprehensive book for the exam.

No you don't have to (see More p.xxi). Core is a bit dated, (specially when he talks about Tomcat 3.0 as a "beta" version) although a lot of the material is still very informative for beginners.

http://pdf.coreservlets.com
If I know this right, the URL above has free copy of Core Servlets and JSP.
BUT
Remember that Core.. uses Servlet 2.2 and JSP 1.1 specification whereas exam tests you on Servlet 2.3 and JSP 1.2 specs

So what's more appropriate? is it a good idea to buy "More Servlets and JSP" in order to prepare for SCWCD?

SCJP, SCWCD, OCA, OCP-DBA 9i, <a href="http://brainbench.com/transcript.jsp?pid=2232802" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">BCIP</a>, MCP, MCAD, MCSD.NET, MCDBA, MCTS (SQL 05), MCITP (DBD, DBA)

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
