Help needed in Tomcat

I had passed SCWCD last yr but was out of touch with tomcat and thus posting this question
can anyone pls let me know how and where to keep the files in tomcat which have to be packaged into war
and how to give this reference of war and where
in web.xml or dtd file?
if this question already has been answered then pls provide me the link of the thread

But I am still not able to figure out as what classpath we have to give in order to compile our servlets declared in our own directory say onjava
which is in webapps directory
like TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/onjava
can anyoone pls give me some hint on it
