Wrote my first SCJP long long ago so long ago when nobody knows about the SCJP (almost 5 and half years ago) It was fresh and no discussion forums or related info available on net. It was hardwork and difficult. Now it is easy to pass the test with tons of mock questions available on net. For the heck of it I wanted to experiment in taking the SCWCD exam. I 've been programming using JSP's and servlets professionally for a long long time. so I thought may be I can clear exam even though if i did not try "prepare" for it. I didn't not want to read or prepare for the exam and decided to walk to exam and take a test. i bought a voucher and booked for an exam yesterday. after my work, i walked in took the test, surprisingly it was EASY. I passed it any way. I have searched web for discussion forums and found javaranch. Decent website. One thing i have learned certifications does NOT add any value to your resume. ONLY Experience counts. No recruiter So far i have faced asked me for them and some DUMB morons even asked me to remove certifications from my resume to make resume look attractive for other software tools and does not give client an impression that I ONLY KNOW JAVA which i did any way cause its a dog eat dog world out there. Have fun folks. PS: by the way I passed with 98% if any one gives a S@#$

You are not very off, Levi. But not all recruiters/employers despise certificates Certifications in itself may not mean much but they can certainly play an important role in a tie breaker. And in this market, having a relevant certification will at least do no harm for sure
Hi, First of All Congratulations on passing exam. I haven't took SCWCD yet, but I believe it's not a big deal to get in 90's in WCD Exam. But you have not mugged the specification rather u end up with ur experience. This sounds really good. Different pplz. have different views over worth of certification. Consider the guy who has no experience but have done couple of certifications. What this cert. will do for him? Surely, this is the only pillar [along with his degree/s] on which he will rely. And this will raise his confidence at the time of interview. Now consider the one who has no certification but a 5+ experience. If he goes for an interview then he will surely rely on his experience. He will not need any piece of paper to show or prove his skills. So, worth of certification vary from case-to-case.
Make resume look attractive for other software tools and does not give client an impression that I ONLY KNOW JAVA
This thing scares me some times. Recently I was interviewed by an employer. When he starts reading my resume he said "u r a Java guy & i want a .NET guy". And I am sure: If I have done some .NET related certification then he will accpet me as an internee [it was an intenship interview]. I have not started my practical career, I mean, I have still some couple of months to enter in my first job. And therefore, I am thinking to get some .NET related certification, Like MCSD.NET or MCAD.NET. I want to know knowledge of atleast two platforms, so that it will inrease my chances of geting my fisrt job. But once I get-in, I will adopt my job platform as my profession & will stuck to it. This is what my thinking and observation on current s/w job market. May be this is wrong startegy. But till now it seems good for me. Bye, Viki.
certifications are useless unless u have the useless ones plus the high level ones, eg SCJP,SCWCD,SCJD,SCBCD and SCEA also OCP and OCM university degree + certifications are all useless going to schools are useless I recommend get a job in the IT industry when u r ready to go to primary school. qualification are all useless what the hell is the point in everything life is useless

.... Billy, different pplz. have different situations in life. They just mentions there situation and get-back. Ur job is to find the one which fits you rather than disappointing and frustrating by reading irrelevant post [irrelevant w.r.t ur situation]. I have not entered in my job life. But I haven't get frustrated after reading Allam's post. What he said, is was according to his situation. U may ask from him, Why he gave SCJP when nobody knows SCJP? And I am sure He got some self-confidence on his first interview due to this piece of paper. There are many other advantages to him due this cert. But now when he is experienced then the value of cert for him is not much. I remember one of my Java teacher as well as developer, who never attempt SCJP. I ask him sir why u not go for SCJP? He said: for me it's useless, but for u it's usefull. I ahve no official Java devlopment experience now. But I consider SCJP and other self-developed Java based projects as my experience, which really boost my confidence! Hope it clears u. Bye, Viki. Levi you stated that it was hard work and difficult work to pass the SCJP 5 1/2 years ago. You also stated that you have been working with JSP/Servlets professionally for a long long time. Were you working with Java for a long long time before taking the SCJP? Do you think that maybe just maybe the SCWCD exam was easy for you because you have been programming with JSP/Servlets for a long long time?
