I was planning to study for above exam. Two questions:
1. Is this exam going to be outdated fast?
2. Sun making big loss and chances of closings on financial liablility will
make java certifications useless?
Any thoughts?
Thanks

The exam is going to be updated next year. You can wait for it, if you want. As per the second question, there's a lot of posts in the job discussion forums, you can read everyone's opinion.

I'm taking the exam next month BTW..

Will the upcoming SCWCD exam based on Servlet 2.4 and JSP 2.0?
But seems those still haven't finalized yet.
However, heard the new SCWCD beta exam will be in the fourth quanter.
So, is that mean, once the those finalize, the new exam will go beta?

I'd not worry about Sun's financial situation.
It's only $150 and some study time that's at risk. The exams are
difficult. Utter fools cannot simply cram and study. If you can
cram and study for the SCJP or other exams then it just shows that
you are very bright.
I think Grad School is a greater risk. Alot more money on the table.
You might only earn alittle bit more than someone with less education
but a bunch of certifications and hard-driven resume experience. I've
worked with some real tools with MSCS, one of which I had to have fired
because he was utterly incapable. Consider the liability of an expensive
education that might otherwise not serve you. Current skills oriented
MSCS programs are crap. Thesis work is the only way to go.

I take these exam to learn new scenarios and the hidden stuff which i dont come accross every day.
so to me they are good to blurt in interviews as well as improve my thingking power.
I used the exam book for coding in real time problems and it served me better while enjoying my vaccation
so the crux is know what u want and index the resources for the difficult problem.
some learn by practice other learn by courses. ( done forget many a computer professional dont know seamphores ... which we readily use in threading and its all over the computer field ( though semaphores are taught in context of threading in Operating system ))
bottom line -- problems are important rest is GOOGLE SEARCH

Just to clarify, the new version of the SCWCD is supposed to be out sometime early next year (March?).
However the existing version will be available for a lonnnnng time still (maybe 18 months?)
I think the real question is whether you want to be certified on all the new topics that will be part of the new version. (The new version will be significantly updated.)

There is no official announcement of a beta, but if Sun does one it would probably be late 2003 or early 2004

Hi Bert,
I haven't taken Beta exam before and I just would like to know what it means by "beta"... Does it mean that if I pass the beta, I am certified for that? I just would like to know the nature of beta exam...
Thanks in advance...

Yes, you are certified even if you pass the "beta" exam. The same happened with SCBCD exam. People asked the same question and Kathy answered that you were certified.
