Hi, I need a little input in deciding which exam to take , the current one or the one which is going to come, For me time is the major constraint, I cannot wait till March or April. What are disadvantages of taking exam now. Does the certificate currently show which version of API ? And lets say SUN comes up with JSP 2.5 and Servlet 3.0 after Dec then what ? are these exams going to be revised again ? The exam today on Sun web site does not mention any verion for SCWCD, It just says " Sun Certified Web Component Developer for J2EE Platform" does not mention any verion of J2EE... Any help is appreciated. Thanks Venkatesh [ January 06, 2004: Message edited by: venkatesh rajmendram ]

Hi, I have already bought the voucher for current exam and also got the Voucher for Beta exam. Thanks Venkatesh

There is no disadvantages at all, except you may need to pay the exam fee twice if you decide to take 310-080 (current version), and 310-081 (new exam with JSP 2.0 and Servlet 2.4) if in case you cannot pass the beta and wanna take the normaltest. Note that the beta exam code is 311-081.
And lets say SUN comes up with JSP 2.5 and Servlet 3.0 after Dec then what ? are these exams going to be revised again ?
This is becos JDK 1.5 is round the corner. But I guess the exam will be revised after the specification of J2EE 1.5 or higher version release. And now is still far far away for that. IMO, 310-081 (or later maybe 310-082, etc) will be revised at least after 1-1.5 years, as you may also notice that SCBCD is based on J2EE 1.3 only (while 1.4 is released) and the exam is released for 3 months ONLY. Thus, you may notice the revise process.

Yes. The certification and the exam title do not reflect the version, only the exam code does (310-080). But the new exam may reflect this becos the exam name of the beta test is: 311-081: Sun Certified Web Component Developer for the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition 1.4. IMO, although you have bought the voucher for 310-080, you may first take SCWCD 1.4 beta first. If pass, then you can use that voucher for another exam. If fail, you can still decide whether use it to take 310-080 or take the new exam 310-081 when it is offically released. Hope this help. Nick.
If you take it and do not pass, it does appear in your CertManager record. I failed the SCBCD beta and can see the score there.

Both pass and fail results will be shown in Cert Manager. After taking the exam, the *graders* and *exam coordinators* will evaluate the answers, as well as the comments, and then decide the pass mark. That's why the email said, it takes 4-6 weeks to get the result. Nick.
