what is a web component?

Having passed both version of scwcd, but i am still not clear of what is a web component in the common sense.
So what is a web component?
a jsp page? a ervlet? or a web application packed in war?
btw, are .war .ear files must created with the jar command? can we package them using winzip/winrar kind of staff?

Simple explanation:
Web Component is a component that is accessible over the web(HTTP, HTTPS). So JSP, Servlets, WebServices are all web components, while EJBs are not
