I pre-ordered the Head first SCWD book on Walmart -
They originally estimated Jul 28th as the release date.

They sent me an email today saying the estimated release date has changed to Oct 2004.

Not sure if it is the same with Amazon - did anybody get the release date from Amazon?

Don't Panic -

Unless there's an earthquake at O'Reilly's printer, HF SCWCD will absolutely be shipping in the first half of August!! (Again - as soon as we know more precisely we'll post it here!)

I'm taking bets

Bn.com says that the book will be shipped by last week of August (i.e 28th).

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbninquiry.asp?ISBN=0596005407&userid=9t0GZtj9vs&cds2Pid=946&pdf=y

But I (pre) ordered in Amazon.com before a week. It said they would be shipping by July 28th. I guess its not going to happen by that date also I didn't get any updates from them. I guess I need to wait for 1 more month. Oreilly.com updated the release date from July to August.

After completion of Scjp 1.4 by Jan '2004, I wanted to do Scwcd, since the book was not available I took scbcd and last week I scored 83% by using head first ejb as the only study material. I am waiting for this book since Jan.

I guess it's worth to wait!

Chill guys!
The Book has been finished - and it might be a little late but you cant rush these things! All the authors have put in a lot of effort when creating the book, because they want it to be correct and worth reading! The publishers will be working hard to get the book in print.

Relax, I'm sure the book will be worth the wait.

Dear SCWCD authors and fellow Java developers,

I graduated from University of Nebraska - Lincoln in December 2003. I obtained SCJP in February and I am very interested in pursuing SCWCD in a month or two. I am also currently looking for a job in Web Application Programming.

When I look for jobs online or on newpaper, I saw a lot of position that requires knowledge in ASP or .NET. However, I do not see a lot of openings for Servlet/JSP. I was wondering if anyone of you could tell me more about the job market in Servlet/JSP? Is there any future planning for Sun Inc to update the current Servlet/JSP technology?

I have started learning Servlet and JSP with Tomcat on my PC a month ago. I was reading Jason Hunter's Servlet book and I have pre-order the Head First Servlet/JSP from Amazon. I am planning to take the exam in a month (mid september) and I spent 2-3 hours everyday to learn and experiment Servelt/JSP. Would you suggest to me a way to prepare myself to have enough knowledge and experience to pass the exam?

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Kai Wen (Kevin)

I think you are doing perfect by practising and analyzing your approaches. I feel that is sufficient to a extent and if you add preparation from one of the well regarded books, you should be able to pass the test easily.

Cheerup.

If you order a book that says: published on the 6th July on Amazon, then the dispatch date will correspond to that date (eg next 24hrs). If the publishing date is changed the dispatch date is not (great system from Amazon).

I changed my order because my Credit Card will expire soon, and its updated the dispatch date to 4-6weeks time from now (the Amazon estimate). , rather than the old estimate.

You cannot really go on the dates from Amazon other than what it says on the book's page - and if that is wrong then everything else that relies on the date will be wrong (eg the orders).

Don't get your hope up because because Amazon does not update its dispatch dates when publishing dates change after you have ordered the book!

I've come to the conclusion that no one knows when the books is actually going to be published. Amazon has said 4-6weeks for the past fortnight! They are obviously doing this to safe guard from lots of complaints.

Keep on waiting!

Tom

So what are we talking about here, Bert, a pool? No fair you or Kathy (or any O'Reilly insider) betting!
