Howdy again,
Well, now that it's only a few days away, I know this is kind of late... but maybe it'll help some of you who already have a 1.3 book and don't want to buy a new book for 1.4...

This is part of a the chapter on custom tags, and includes almost all of the content from the book on Tag Files and Simple tags. If we have talked about something in these pages, you can assume that it is probably going to be on the exam. Conversely, if we did not mention it, then you probably do not need to worry about it

The PDF is 1.5 Mbs, and is at:
Tag Files and Simple Tags chapter

The part that is not included is the last half of the chapter which is on the classic tag model, which hasn't changed from the earlier version of JSP. (Although the questions on the exam about it have changed).

This is not the final version that was printed, but it is *very* close, but you might find a typo or two in this. Please do not reproduce or send to anyone, but you can give the link out for now. It probably will disappear soon after the book starts shipping. I wish I'd put this up earlier for y'all, but here it is anyway... I'm still planning to put one more thing up on EL.

cheers,
Kathy

Hi Kathy

Do we need to study on Declaring and using variables in SimpleTag classes and Tag files ? . Does exam have any questions on this ?.The sample chapter provided by you doesn't cover this . That's why I am asking this.

Thanks in advance

Regards
Raju

Hmmm... I can't say exactly what's covered on the exam, but the things we decided to cover in the book are a direct result of what we thought you'd need for the exam. In some cases we covered *more* than what's on the exam, for things you need in the Real World that aren't necessarily part of the exam, but we have carefully anaylzed our coverage and 99% of what is on the exam is discussed in the book.

So... to kind of answer your question--if it's not in the book, you probably do not need to worry about it being on the exam

Our philosophy is this: there is SO much to study for this new SCWCD that you should focus your brain time and power on the things that are important for the exam, and for the Real World, but *not* spend time trying to fill your head with a lot of other specific API details that aren't on the exam and that you would not need to memorize as a professional developer.

Maybe another response to your question is... you can relax

cheers,
Kathy
