Have we touched a million posts in Javaranch ??? On an average, how many posts are made by each member ??? Are posts archived or do we always have all posts from day one on the forum ??? Finally, what percentage of posts are actually from moderators asking newbies to change the display name etc ??? Should make for some interesting statistics . . . Shashank

Surely the total number of posts is approximately the sum of the forum totals from the forum list on the Moose Saloon front page? I can't give a total here (it changes all the time!), but it should be simple enough for you to add them up yourself. I remember doing some digging a year or two back about average post counts and so on. At that time, the great majority of javaRanch users had posted only one or a very small number of posts. Even accounting for the Sherrifs, Bartenders and power users who have posted thousands, the average is probably still no more than (say) 5 posts.
I did some calculation. As on July 28, 2002 at 12:42 Pacific time, the total number of posts on Javaranch forums is 362262. The forum with the least number of posts is Orion with 89 posts. The forum with by far the most posts is Programmer Certification study with 75588 posts There are approximately 32300 members at Javaranch. (Found this from the member id of a guy who has registered this month). That works out to 11.2 posts on an average per member. If we take out the moderator & power user's posts, probably this will be as Frank said around 5 posts per member. -Shashank
