I have to buy a preparation book for SCWD and people recommend the Head First Servlets and JSP.

Now, I had a look on amazon.com, amazon.ca and chapters.indigo.ca and I found 3 verions of the same book (same ISBN though). On amazon.com this book has 656 pages and was released in July 2004. On amazon.ca the book has 854 pages and was release in March 2004. On chapters.indigo.ca, the book has 550 pages and was released in June 2004.

I don't know which one to buy.

I mention that currently I have the Java 2 Web Developer Certification Study Guide by Natalie Levi with Philip Heller from Sybex. Is it a good book?

Thanks,
Andrei

Andrei -

Well I think HFS is pretty good , but really the thing to know is that there is only one version of the book, the various book sellers get bad or pre-mature data... the real book is over 800 pages.

Thank you Bert.

I called before a Chapters/Indigo store and they confirmed it has more than 800 pages. What about the publishing date? Is it June/July 2004 or March 2004? I am talking about the last edition.

Thanks,
Andrei

Hi Anderi...

Last week I have cleared my SCJP and now planning for scwcd.
By this time u must have gone through Java 2 Web Developer Certification Study Guide by Natalie Levi with Philip Heller.
I have the same book...I did not start yet. Do u feel that book is sufficient or suggest for HFS.

thanks,
infyniti

Hi Infyniti,

Yes, I read half of that book. In the same time I ordered at amazon.ca the K&B books for Servlets & JSP and for EJB. I think this tells a lot of how much I price the Sybex books .

I read a Sybex book for the SCJP and after I finished it, I took the Javaranch test. The score was 60 %. After I read the K&B book, the score went to 90% and more.

One more thing: the Sybex book is incomplete. It is not intended for the SCWCD 1.4 exam.

Hi Jaya,

The Head First Servlets and JSP has more than 800 pages. I went to a Chapters bookstore and had it in my hands.

Then I ordered a copy from amazon.ca and I can tell you it is the same with the one I found at Chapters.

If you live in the GTA, you may check for the book at Queensway & East/West Mall Chapters location. They had two left in store. Or you can check for the availability on the web.

If you buy worth of more than CAD 75 from amazon.ca, then you'll get a CAD 10 coupon on the email. This is what I did, I bought the book we are talking and HF EJB.

Regards,
Andrei

I would buy it from amazon.ca. And the book has no CD in it.
