Considering the fact that we discuss so many things at the ranch i wonder wether we can have a forum for AI ( Artificial Intelligene too ) May be not a separate forum but just some place ..... Where we can disscuss the possibilites of combining Java and AI to make intelligent programs

First we need to see alot of conversations on that topic. THEN we will think about adding a forum for it.

How do you combine JAVA and AI? Wouldn't you want to program AI into a JAVA program? Hince, AI is created from JAVA instead of combined with?
I think that most AI topics are better discussed in MD because I feel it is a fairly controversial topic.
Also, I think that if you have an AI question that is specific to JAVA there are probably plenty of forums already available because it will more than likely be an algorithms question rather than specific to AI.
In short, I think AI topics are debates, not programming discussions. Just my opinion though.

Hi Amit, I find your suggestion very interesting. Why don't you open a new thread about it in General Computing? I'm not so sure about the wisdom of opening it in MD, though...

...unless of course you want debates about "what is intelligence".

It's hard to do AI in Java; wrong kind of language. I know, I used to do a lot of prolog stuff. Prolog is good for logic, just a maintenance nightmare. Java code gets bugs; AI code gets opinions.
That said, AI languages are good for XML work, and the semantic web is kind of AI applied to the web. So discussing semantic web stuff in the web services corner is AI of a sort.

For those interested, Mark Watson wrote a book called "Practical Artificial Intelligence Programming in Java" that he is offering as a free download from http://www.markwatson.com/opencontent/opencontent.htm . I haven't read it, but I will.
