If I'll keep servlet-api.jar or jsp-api.jar in

mywebApp/web-inf/lib directory then i'll not have to set classpath explicitly to compile servlet ???.

Ref Q3 on hfs&jsp page:583

yes, you dont have to do this as the libraries required will be available to your application.

But, I have a little doubt...how would we compile the servlets if we put them in some location other than the deployment directory..

Actually this is ok for jsp pages...but for the compiling the servlets you need to have these libraries in classpath...
