Hello Everybody, Yesterday I cleared the exam with 84%. Thanks to Head First book and all the ranchers. I think for exam preparation, Head First is a pretty good book. But there are some question which are not covered in Head First book. I would say it is better to get proper understanding of Desing Patterns, I had about 7 questions on design patterns and I wasn't sure on about 5 of them. So I decided to buy "Head First Design Patterns" and learn design patterns properly. I had about 2-3 questions which were not covered in the book. If you read the specs and something about design patterns, along with the HFS book then you can get 95%-100%. I read the book twice and then decided to write the exam on June 11th and prepared well for the exam but the PROMETRIC people cancelled it and I wrote it yesterday and I revised the book once. I did not write any mock exams, I always kept them for 1 day before exam and never found time. All the questions that I saw were the questions after each chapter in HFS book. BEST OF LUCK TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ARE PLANNING TO WRITE THE EXAM. I have only one advice, read the book twice and design patterns and you will get 90%.

Congrats! If you read the specs and something about design patterns, along with the HFS book then you can get 95%-100%. So, um, what's the real point of reading the HFS book? My exam is scheduled in under a month, and I've only been reading HFS. I'm getting quite frustrated at the questions at the end of chapters that aren't covered in the chapters themselves. I downloaded the Servlets 2.4 and JSP 2.0 specs, but that's like another 700-800 pages! What rough percentage of the questions would you say was not covered by HFS? Thank you, Yuriy

Kumar, I did not read specs so I cannot really say anything about how much you should read spec. All that I read was the HSF book. Yuriy, Around 3-4 questions were not covered in HFS and around 2 were mistakes that others have also pointed out. But the rest were covered from the book. I got around 7 questions from design patterns so read more about desing patterns from different resources... Hope this helps and best of luck. Suresh

Congrats for clearing the exam!! The design patterns covered in SCWCD are j2ee design patterns. Hence Core J2ee patterns would be a better book to read. check http://corej2eepatterns.com. Head First Design patterns covers Object oriented patterns with Java. It is a good book to prepare for SCEA.

I studied just HFS for a week and then wrote my exam and got 83%. I think i might have got more than that if i had studied the book again or taken some mock exams. I feel there is no necessity to read Head First patterns book for SCWCD exam .. yes there were some questions in the exam not covered in the book but as far as i remember they were not from the patterns. Questions from patterns were very straight forward and easy. I believe that Head First Patterns book will be more useful for SCEA exam rather than for SCBCD. If you have more time up your sleeves then its better reading the specs rather than reading HFP. [ June 30, 2005: Message edited by: Sanjay Murugesan ]
