Hi All,

I cleared my SCWCD 1.4 exam today "by the skin of my teeth" (I'm too embarrassed to reveal my score) and I am really happy about passing the toughest exam on the planet. I would like to thank the authors of HFSJ (Kathy, Bert and Bryan); the people behind the JEnthuse mock exam website, the JAVARANCH mock exam website, and the JAVARANCH website for this triumph.

My stategic question: Which exam should I take next: The SCBCD (which is all about EJB's) OR The Sun Certified Developer for JAVA Web-Services ??? (Many of my JAVA Developer friends say that I should take the Web-Services exam next.)

Note that I'm a 25-year Mainframe Applications Developer attempting to retool myself in the new technology (for survival).

Please let me know your thoughts on this, please. Thanks. Take care.

hi "mainframe Al"....

first of all, i'm sure bartender or any other member here will judge your displayed name. please refer to naming policy.

secondly, just like you said, you want to reboot yourself with new technology (for survival), then SCBCD or Java for web services or even BOTH you can take for next exam. But its up to you that you prefer which one that is related to your field.

maybe im just a college student, cannot judge you, but i just give pure advice from my heart, i guess you should know what you want since you're a employee/employer (as long as you have a job) already, right? instead, i'm the one who should think seriously of what i'm going to do for my future, jobs, interests etc to get myself survive out there....haha...hehe...

well, good luck Al...ops, what's your name?

all the best

Hi Nicky ,

Thanks for the heads-up on the naming policy; I wasn't aware of it; and I have just updated my profile regarding my name just now. Sorry.

I'm an employee, not an employer.

After speaking with my freinds, they convinced me to go for the Web Services exam as most companies are finding EJB too difficult to implement; and are using Web Services instead.

Can you please tell me why you think it's best to take both the SCBCD Exam and the Web Services exam ?

Also, IN WHICH ORDER SHOULD I TAKE THEM ?: SCBCD FIRST AND THEN WEB SERVICES; OR WEB-SERVICES FIRST AND THEN SCBCD ?

PLEASE LET ME KNOW ON THESE TWO (2) IMPORTANT QUERIES PLEASE ?

Thanks. Take care.

Hi Al,

If it was me, I would take the SCBCD exam first.
Why, 2 reasons. 1) read some of the posts on the SCDJWS forum here and you soon realise just how big it is and how you really need to work in the area to get your head around it fully or take a lot of time, probably more than you would want to spend. 2) SCBCD, whilst not being used by many companies is a logical step from SCWCD and complements it well. There are areas where the 2 overlap.

Also there are books around that help you out with the SCBCD where as the SCDJWS comes from many sources and will get confusing.

my 2 cents HTH

Thanks Mat Williams (and Thejaswi Narayana):

Because I'm a JAVA newbie and because I'm not coding JAVA all day long yet (rather I'm coding Mainframe all day long currently); and because I've not yet received any JAVA assignments yet from surrounding managers:

I've decided to take the SCBCD exam first (and of course I will buy and study the Head First EJB Book).

Thanks JAVA Ranchers and everyone for your help. Take care.
