JavaRanch is Great

I have used ALOT of mailing lists and Java discussion groups and I have to say that Java Ranch is one of the best if not THE best ( is pretty darn good too). What makes Java Ranch so good is that the Sheriffs and Ranch Hands (i.e. "experts") actually spend quite a bit of time on this site answering questions. The same is true of, but most sites do not. For example, I recently used where they claim that sun certified experts answer questions. While I'm sure they occasionally do, 99.9% of all questions are either:
  • Not answered by Sun Experts
  • Not about a topic that belongs in that forum (they do NOT administer the forum like JavaRanch does)
  • Useless
  • Not answered period

  • So a big thanks goes out to JavaRanch!

Gee thanks . So does this mean that YOU intend to spend some time helping other folks out also??

Of course, and I do when I can, but my knowledge of Java is not quite that of the Sheriffs or deputies around here. I'll keep more of an eye out for stuff I can answer. (But I'm not cleaning up the horse manure. I'll just feed the horses in this stable

I agree. Top Site. Hope I can can one day reach a level of Java knowledge where I can contribute as much as I am currently gleaning from the forums. I'll help feed the horses until then (or help herd those damn cows that never quite make it into the roundup pen)

Hmmm, actually herding the cows is important. That's part of what is ruining many forums sites (like sun's). I was in a Jini forum the other day and of course there was the following post:
"Socket problem with applet, I need help from you."
I am writing an applet that has a thread to draw an image on the screen every second, this is working fine. ...
My question is, how to write another thread that sleeping 50 ms beside the thread of the image? ...
Whoah! As they say here, "Get thee to the Threads (or AWT) Forum." Ahhh, herding the stray cows. Another reason I like Java Ranch, they actually do that here!

I totally agree with you. It's the best forum for java. Great job! Thx for sharing your knowledge with us !

By constantly trying one ends up succeeding. Thus: the more one fails the more one has a chance to succeed.
    I agree. Here's the link:
