I passed SCWCD 1.4 yesterday (25 Oct 2005) with 91%. I have prepared since June, but not continously. I studied full time three days before the exam. On the day itself, I only looked at the dynamic attributes (there was 1 question on it).
I used HFSJ for my main study material, but also looked through the SCWCD Exam Study Kit, as well as using the JSP and servlet specifications for reference. I did the final mock exam of HFSJ once, and got 72%. I did not do any other mock exams.
When I finished the exam, I still have like 55 minutes left. I only checked through 4 questions I had marked earlier. I did not checked through the other questions again because I was just too lazy to do so, and anyway I knew that I had passed well.
I don't get excited over this certification because I don't feel it's really valuable and realistic. The Brainbench certifications are more realistic because they are open books ones. In real life, you are not expected to memorize stuff like web.xml elements.
Beside this certification, I also have SCJP 1.2 which I took 5 years ago. I am also Brainbench certified in C programming (Master level, expired already), C++ Fundamentals (Master level), ANSI-SQL (Master level) and OO Concepts. I also have a Bachelor in Engineering and Master in Software Engineering, both of which were done part-time over 6.5 years.
My next certificate would be more difficult, but it has a much longer shelf life. I have worked on it for 2 years already, and I expect to obtain it next year. It is called "Certificate of Marriage".
I realized that I have spent too much time on my own pursuit like studying for certifications after work, and I have neglected my girlfriend. A few days before my SCWCD exam, we had a quarrel and she wanted to break up with me. So you can imagine that revising for the exam during these few days had not been easy for me emotionally. Anyway, I have realized my faults in the relationship, and I have finally patched up with her. So I am glad that I have both the certification and my girlfriend now. As such, I will not be attempting any more certification in the near future, so that I can devote my time to my girlfriend.
