Hi there,
Do I need to buy books about design patterns and UML for this exam?
Is it better to read these first?

Thanks

No you don't need to.
Read the blueprints about J2EE Patterns, those needed for the exam:
. Transfer object
. Intercepting filter
. Service locator
. MVC
. Front controller
. Business delegate
