I took the SCWCD test almost five (!?!) years ago. Have there been significant changes to the exam in that time? Does the book provide any historical perspective by addressing changes between versions of the test?

Any opinions on whether it would be worth taking again?

It probably would be worth taking an updated version - Servlet 2.4 and more particularly JSP 2.0 introduced major new topics like filters, EL (in the core specs.) and simple tags and tag files. There is a big gap between the SCWCD 1.3 and SCWCD 1.4 for example.

The book doesn't provide any major historical background - it's designed instead to introduce you afresh to the new features in the platform. Of course, you'd find much of the older material straightforward if you've done a previous exam... In terms of versions of the test, you'd probably get a good idea about the new style of exam from the practise questions at the end of chapters.
