Thanks to you all and had asked questions couple of times.

Good points-
exact focus on the exam

more examples
minimize errata next time/edition
some concepts like jsp:invoke tag has been given as answer for exercises in customs tag chapter and it wasnt discussed in the chapter at all.

No idea about servlets and jsps before.
I read HFSJ twice. I used to loose focus and start reading again as soon as I reach chapter 10. This happened 3 times to me. Then I took the exam date, one month ago.
Took JWEBPLUS exams section wise as soon as I read each chapter from HFSJ. You can take free mocks at JDiscuss (essentially they are more or less from the same database). JWEBPLUS has more range.
I recommend taking notes after every chapter/workout each and every code from HFSJ and take as many exercises as possible.

About the exam(got63/69)
As other people have said, expect to see lot of questions in Standard Actions, custom tags, JSTL, EL and Design patterns.
I got 100 percent in design patterns. There are no questions on DAO pattern atleast for me. Look for the keywords.
anything with lookup - SLocator
if views keep changing - MVC
get data from EJB at one go - TObject
Communicate with business tier and webtier - BDelegate
FrontController is like struts (one centralized action performing everything).
DONT Miss dynamic attributes tutorial and do the exercise question from HFSJ. Its hard to loose questions on other servlet topics because they are very straightforward.
There were questions on mime-mapping, ejb-local-ref, env-entry

I got 43/63(63 percent)in the mock exam ...+28 percent worked for me.

I will stop here...
all the best!!

did you ever refer specs for jsp, jstl at all. i read the spec for servlets.but i'm finding the jsp and jstl specs pretty dry.if i have to ,what should i study from specs.

when you really want something, all the universe always conspires in your favour.<br /> <br />SCJP1.5-77%<br />SCWCD-89%

Thank you all.

Yes, Read servlet specs.
Read JSP, EL implicit objects.
Understand that EL accesses most of the non-page scope objects using pageContext implicit object while jsp is not.
application, session, request and page
pageContext, pageContext.session, pageContext.request ...

Also in JSP, read about the life cycle
specs- jspBase and HttpJSPBase

JSTL - You just need to understand the flow of control for all the simple/classic tag methods in the book. I would not read anything more than what is mentioned in the book but refer specs if needed a clear understanding.

Bottomline- take more exams and exams validate your understanding of the concepts.

I am leaving to India today. I might not have access to the internet there. If I dont reply, please forgive me. Good luck.
