Guys,

I'm unable to install and run tomcat. Can anyone please let me know which version of Tomcat you guys use when you study the HFSJ book? Also can anyone provide me with the exact file that I have to download from the apache website?? I need this so that I can practice some samples on my own rather than using an IDE.

Thanks in advance.

You can download Tomcat 5.0.x or Tomcat 5.5.x from HERE

I used Tomcat 5.5 for the preparation. What is the problem you are getting while installing?

Thanks for your replies. I also downloaded the .exe version of Tomcat 5.5.17 and I have set the port as 1979 as in port 8080 I have oracle running. Now when I start Tomcat from All programs>Tomcat>and click start, it stops immediately and also I tried this example on page 76 and I'm getting frustrated as I'm not able to work around it. Please help me...I desperately need help..

After several tries, I found out that, after starting Tomcat and saying http://localhost:1979, it shows me the Tomcat page but for the second request that I do, shuts down Tomcat and gives me a page cannot be found message. Did anyone else also face similiar problem??

You might try shutting down oracle when you try and start up Tomcat. They could be using the same port to do some communication.

Tom,

Didn't you notice that in my post above, I'm running Tomcat on port 1979. Despite this fact, I have also shut down Oracle from port 8080 but that really don't make any sense. Still I'm facing the same problem and I'm pissed off to that extent that I'm going to practice using netBeans which has Tomcat bundled.

Any help from ranchers would be highly appreciated.
