Does container must return 404 error

in HFSJ,
"if a J2EE1.4 compliant container receives a partial request for which it cannot find a match, it must return an HTTP 404 error code". For this statement, HFSJ thinks it is invalid.

I am just wondering are there any results the container can return when it cannot find something except for HTTP 404?

Thanks guys.

You could create an Intercepting Filter to handle it yourself. I believe you can also specify a specific error page for 404 in the web.xml - in fact that's probably what we do here. Other than that, I can't think of any exceptions to the rule.

Thanks Marc. Using intercepting filter makes sense.
