Hi !!!
Take a look to Scwcd Links.
For the book, HFSJ is considered as one the bests.

Best of luck !!!

That really depends on what is meant by "reference book"... HFSJ is highly respected as an excellent beginners and cert. book, but has a layout which makes it harder to use as a reference. If it's actually a reference book you want, I guess I'd recommend my book (see signature)... but then I suppose I would really Of course, you could get both if in doubt!

I'd recommend getting two books for two reasons. One is that you should get two different explanations of the topics and the other is that when you put the two together you are likely to end up "filling in the gaps" that are always left by any explanation of a topic. Also the cost of two books is fairly minor in comparison with the cost of taking and or re-taking the exam.

Hey Guys,
passing SCWCD is not a big deal just, read Head First Sevlet & JSP once, practice 2 mock tests and you are ready for the real exam

I just studied for 3 days (Sat, Sun & Mon ) 16 hrs a day and took the exam today (Tue) and got 82%

Background: I only worked on Servlets and JSP but not JSTL or Custom Tags
Best Advice: Concentrate more on Servlets, JSP, Filters, Design Patterns Deployment Descriptor and Security.

Congratulations on your success. How did you spread your time out from studying 16 hours per day Did you run it from 9 in the morning till 1 in the morning the following day or did you start earlier? Did you take breaks? The reason I ask about these details is that a few years ago I qualified as an IT teacher specialising with adults and I have never come accross anyone who could study meaningfully for such extended time. Most people can only study meaningfully for a few hours per day and require frequent breaks.

Also I have been observing the feedback from thousands of other candidates for this and other Java exams for 9 years (I passed the SCJP in 1998) and most people report a need to study for many many hours over (on average) several months to pass these types of exams. I have taken and passed the SCWCD exams and 3 days study did not get me past understanding objective 1. I did have a background writing commercial Servlet/JSP code.

Human attention span limitations wouldn't allow you to study 16 hrs/day. Its a physical impossibility.

hi,

It's possible to study for 16 hours a day for one week only. After one week you will fall sick and your health will deteriorate.

Just start from morning 10.00 AM till 3 A.M next day.
take a break of 15 minutes every 2 hours, have fruit juices and energy drinks.

It is not possible to study meaningfully for 16 hours a day for a week. Your statement contradicts all generally accepted understanding of human learning ability.

With my exp. from some hectic project in past.....

One can work for longer hours 16+ for some days (EVEN 10-12 days to meet deadline) but performance keep degrading after 8-10 hours and become 50% after that.

Study is more harder than working on some tech problem in critical pressure. may be possible for someone very dedicated studying for 3 days this way but rather 16 hrs i feel 12 hours with proper plan and targets will be sufficient. more long hours can be harmful ....

Thoughts? Marcus
