New version of HF Servlets has escaped!

Hi Guys,

I hold in my hands a copy of the new version of "HF Servlets and JSP" (HFSJ).

It should be making its way to bookstores as I type this. Here's the scoop. The new version of the exam is almost identical to the old version. The Sun team threw out a bunch of old questions and wrote a bunch of new questions, but the topics are the same. Personally, I'd say that if you're already a SCWCD going for the upgrade should be a really low priority. If you're not yet a SCWCD, then by all means take the new test, not the old one.

As far as the book goes here's what's new:

- we fixed all the errors we knew about
- we added a couple of new topics, like dynamic attributes (all stuff that should have been there in the first place!)
- we wrote a whole new final mock exam

O'Reilly is going to put an electronic version of the old mock exam up on its website for free!

My advice would be that if you already have a copy of the old version of the book, it's probably not a great idea to buy the new version - unless of course you have money to burn - in which case , buy two

But, if you don't already have the book and were thinking about buying it, then I'd advise getting the new version. It's got fewer errors, it's got a few new topics, and, counting the exam that will be on the website, it has a bonus mock exam.

Spot false dilemmas now, ask me how!

Oh man, I almost forgot!

If you run into a particularly tricky, sneaky, or just plain hard JSP question in the book, you probably have JavaRanch's very own Marc Peabody to , err, I mean thank for it. Marc came to our rescue and helped write a bunch of devilish questions that we're all quite proud of!

Thanks Marc!

Hi Bert,

Thanks for the advice, i'm reading actually the book for second time to take the exam, and it is very, very good. I'm wonder what version of servlets and jsp uses the book. Again, thanks for this marvelous book.

I really appreciate the way HFSJ is written.
The authors have changed the approach to books .. now reading a book is fun activity and also its easier and faster to pickup the contents ..
