Filters support an initialization mechanism that includes an init() method that is guaranteed to be called before the fiter is used to handle request

This was one of the option to select true or false in Coffee Cram of Filter chapter(Question no 5), but this option was not selected to be true.

Am I missing something silly?

No, you are not missing anything, it is just a errata on the book:

(703) question 5;
option D should be checked.

I recommend you to check http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/headservletsjsp/errata/headservletsjsp.confirmed
every time you think something is wrong in the book

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
