Frankly, i just registered for SCJA without havingan idea
about the exam. But Why i got the exam objectives and decided
to scramble through my java books. And behold i found these 2 books
interesting.
1. Java How to program by doilette
2. Java 2 Unleased by 2 kool guys.
The first clearly covered the UML and Algorithm aspect and
the second covered Client and Server side of java tech.
like Web Service, jsp, RMI, JMS,e.tc

For UML part, I would say The UML guide is a must read book because the book author is also the one of the exam authors, who knows the most of SCJA exam.

i've got the 'picture' about web services and it's buzzwords (UDDI, WSDL, and so on) from the tutorial by Ed Roman (author of mastering EJB).
it's really good for understanding the basic about java web services.
i've got it quite long ago from the internet(.asf format), but i forget the exact url

In addition to Nick's comment, I would add that The UML guide by Dave Wood is the only resource needed to prepare for the UML part of the exam. Believe me

Yeah, Nick, it's so cool. It really needs a broad view over Java Technology. I even saw some ambiguous questions in the exam like you mentioned in one of the threads out there. But I could dig them out .
In general, the exam is well-structured and contains good questions.
