This certification is only useful in Japan only. Most people start from SCJP.

Bert mentioned during the period of SCJA beta that, this certificate is actually requested by Sun Japan.

It depends on which area you want to focus.

If you wanna play around with Web, then you should consider SCWCD and SCBCD.

If you wanna play around with mobile stuff, then SCMAD is a good idea.

Nope, the moderator is right here

I usually just glance at this forum briefly to make sure things are flowing smoothly. I don't have this certification myself, so I don't have much to contribute to the threads. Besides, traffic is quite low in this forum and everyone that visits here seems more qualified to give answers than I am.

I took SCJA exam today and passed it by 88%. This is my 1st certificate.
I didn't want to go straight to SCJP, because it more detailed about language syntax. SCJA is more analytical and related with OO, UML and Java aspects.

I've been working as java programmer for some years and all I did before exam was reading Dave Wood's 10-page UML quick reference in http://www.hfoobook.com/ and took Sun's example ePractice exam.

I found Sun's ePactice exams (http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/WGS-PREX-J019C.xml) helpfull, because exam package cost only 35e and there was 3 example exams with 51 questions in all of them.

Next I'm planning to take SCJP exam.
