Is there anybody... out there..?

Hi everyone!
I cleared the SCJA with 92% in February. Later, in April, I cleared the SCJP with 95%. Anyway, I'm taking the SCWCD next month.
Was the SCJA a waste of my time?

It is actually a very calm exam, very soft compared to the SCJP exam. It is interesting because it demands a very general overview of many different java technologies. Anyway, I took it because I thought it was required for the rest of the certifications... I still don't know how valuable it is as a line in your resume, I was hoping someone could tell me.

As I understand it, SCJA is meant for project managers and people who never actually get their "hands dirty" with code. SCJP "supercedes" SCJA in that most of the same material is covered, but in a lot more depth (which is why this forum is very, very quiet - it just doesn't interest Ranchers).

Looking at the SCJA objectives, it seems as though the only things different from SCJP are: (1) UML, (2) algorithms and pseudo-code, (3) the overview of other technologies in the client and server tiers. Case (2) you can effectively obtain through SCJP - looking at SCJA objectives, all they're asking is for non-programmers to think about data flow... but programmers (SCJPs) do this all the time, just by looking at (Java) code and not pseudo-code. Case (1) is a valuable skill which isn't covered in the SCJP (nor in many "beginner's" books I might add). Case (3) is, I suppose, only as valuable to a programmer as how much they know about it... after all, if a programmer knows about RMI then at least they know they might be able to use it somewhere. But if they don't know anything about how to use it, they would still need to learn that in order to develop using it. I've always said its good to appreciate what's out there so you can apply the right tools to the right job - but using it is another matter!

I wouldn't say you wasted your time on SCJA (it probably helped you with the excellent score in SCJP!); every little bit of knowledge helps.

Tackling SCWCD in two months is daring, unless you've got a lot of previous experience in the Web side... but good luck!

Is SCJA easier than the SCJP? also does studying for and taking an SCJA make things easier(in terms of study) to then take an SCJP?

A lot easier, more subjects are covered but at a very high level. There is a slight overlap between the subjects covered.
