I just pass my SCJP and now decide to go for SCJD, and would like someone to guide me on this. I am currently a full time C/C++ programmer but my hands on experience on Java is very minimal. If I go for SCJD, is taking some Java courses first before the actual start of SCJD a MUST? Or, can I just straightly register SCJD, download the assignment, and then learn from it while working on the assignment by referring to some Java reference books. You advice is deeply appreciated.

Rudy,
It's tough to make a blanket statement about your individual case. Since you have like a year to complete the project, I might recommend that you download it and start is as soon as you get it. If you find that you are having major problems with it, then go take a class or two. You would then still have a good amount of time to complete it.

Paul, thx for your advice. I really cannot find anywhere in the SUN website saying that the assignment can last for a year. Can you forward me the link? I think I will start it as soon as possible. As you said, if I get stuck in the mid of assignment, I might need to attend some classes right a way.

I can't put my finger on it right now, but I'm almost positive that you have at least year to complete the exam. In fact, I saw somewhere that it said "as long as the exam is still offered", but I don't think that was directly from Sun, though.
