confusion on FBN

HI everyone:
I am working on the FBN project. I've finished lock(), unlock() and criteriaFind(). Right now I am trying to design the server for the RMI part. What's confusing me is how I am gonna design the server interface. As I understand, for the network version, we should give the user the ability to run the server and client on different machines, which means the server package including FiledInfo and DataInfo classes will not be available to the client side. So, the server is not supposed to send the client results like DataInfo[] or FieldInfo[]. But how do we retrieve those information?
I am also confused by the requirement: "To connect with your server, you should create a client program. This implementation should include a class that implements the same public methods as the suncertify.db.Data class". One the client side, do we really need to implement all the methods in the Data class?

As assignment specifies you can use either RMI or object serialization.
