I just start looking the project. Surprising & Wondering…..
Why sun don't want us use new technology eg. EJB, relational database instead of socket, rmi, binary file.
Can we count this experience as real commercial experience. As when we apply the java position alway ask got how many years commercial experience. If not, what benefit we can have.
thanks & regards,

Hi David, and welcome to JavaRanch!
Please edit your profile so that your display name conforms with the JavaRanch Naming Policy. Thanks for your cooperation.
As for the assignment, J2EE technology is covered in the architect exam. The developer exam has different objectives.
As for real-world experience, I think it would help a lot in completing the requirements but no, I don't think you can honestly say that you have real-world experience by just getting the Developer certification.
As with any certification, your mileage may vary as to how much value you can derive from it. Some employers hold certifications in high regard while others value real-world experience more than "paper" qualifications.
OTOH, the Developer Certification does allow you to support a claim to achieving a certain level of knowledge and skills in specific areas of the Java(tm) Platform.

I've seen a few posts that speak to the SCJD having little value. That brings the question to mind, "at what point did distributed computing, design by contract, threading and HCI become skills of little value?"
Certifications should be pitched to a prospective employer as there being some assurance (from the smart peops at Sun vs. the self-promotion in a resume) that you'll be able to hit the ground running.
My $0.02...
I agree. Here's the link:
